Water Heater Warranty Information

We hope this information helps you and if there is anything else we can help with in regards to your water heater, please don’t hesitate to call Plumbing 911 today.

Important Warranty Overview:

  • The standard warranty that comes with most water heater tanks are for 6 years. NOTE: Some tanks only have 2-year warranties; also, there are upgradeable 8 to 10-year warranty options for some brands.

Some manufacturers offer extended warranties; however, Plumbing 911 does not recommend extended warranties as our experience lends our customers to overpay on a tank that could potentially have no warranty issues and if issues do arise, it is cheaper to contract a plumber to fix the issue than to deal with extended warranty companies that the manufacturers outsource the work too.

  • Most brands cover both the internal components and tank; however, some brands only cover the tank itself.
  • With component and tank warranties, it is important to contact your water heater manufacturer first before hiring a contractor for service. Each manufacturer has it’s own protocol for handling your warranty care and the use of an unauthorized technician or service could void your warranty. When calling the manufacturer for warranty care, make sure to have the tank’s serial and model numbers to give over the phone. You can locate this information typically on a sticker on the front of the tank.
  • It is also a good idea, but not required, to register your water heater with the manufacturer. This makes the warranty process easier sometimes, while providing a way for the manufacturer to contact you for special recall details if necessary.
