URGENT SCAM ALERT! Hey everyone, we have had two of our customers fall prey to this and we are wanting to let everyone know that there is scam going on in service-based industries.
Please beware of ANY third-party directory company saying that they will book a plumber/contractor for your home and asks you to pre-pay for service in advance online or with a credit card over the phone.
Furthermore, beware of a site asking you to give personal information about your home, service issue and personal information (name, address, phone number) in order for you to see contractor information.
Businesses that are reputable have their information public and do not require third party verification of customer leads and visa versa.
Here’s How To Protect Yourself:
1. We recommend using trusted online sources such as Google, Google Guaranteed, Google Maps, Facebook, Yelp, and your local Better Business Bureau. Also, printed publications like Yellow Pages, Post Cards and Print Ads are a good source, although you may want to follow up on these leads with learning what their review score ratings are online. Lastly, good old fashion word of mouth referrals are wonderful in helping you find a trusted contractor!
2. Contact the company you choose directly yourself for scheduling appointments. Do not depend on any third-party service to set appointments, as they do not have resources within local business systems to schedule appointments directly.
3. DO NOT PRE-PAY for service over the phone or online. ONLY PAY the person that completes the service upon completion of the job, per your agreement with that contractor.
